The reason why I am here is because it seems as if I can make a path for my family, to see that going to college is not impossible anymore. It seems as if going to college is the only way out in my community. The main reason I am living the college experience is to make my mother proud.

Reflection statement 1
Why am I here is the question I was asked? I have a few answers to this question but let me start with the one I believe to be the most important and that is to be able to build knowledge through education. I feel knowledge is of key importance in one’s life it shapes who you are and what you become. And I feel a way you can gain knowledge is through experience, which coming to college is probably one of the biggest experiences that I have ever had. The meeting of new people, being more responsible for myself, learning new things, being on my own, are all part of that college experience. I’m going to admit it’s a little scary because it’s all so new but it’s what’s going to shape me in becoming the man I can be in the future and that is why I am here.
Reflection Statement 2
Who I am is the question this week and I feel that it’s a hard one for me when it really shouldn’t be. To start off my name is Mario Boone and I consider myself as a young man. Mainly because I am grown but don’t fall under the category of what a man is. Being a man to me is more than just being grown it’s having a successful career, while taking care of a family. Being respected for what you have done, and you know you have that sense about yourself that you have accomplished something. That I feel is what defines a man and I have still need more time to accomplish such a goal. So if there is one thing that I know that I am is that I am a young man in college trying to further my knowledge and find my place in society so that one day I can witness what it feels like to be a man.

Why are you here?
This question is simple, but I believe I have quest from my mother that I want to finish. I believe that is proving my dad wrong and my elementary teachers. All of them said I was not going to make it far in life and probably make it out of the third grade. So I believe my purpose is to prove my haters wrong and show my dad I am capable of getting a college degree and just making it further than him and raising a good family in the future. On the other hand the reason I am here is because my beautiful mother put me here to start trend of success. My mom would always tell me if you want something then go get it and do it a hundred percent. But when she passed away I ask myself plenty of times why am I here. Since my mom not here anymore why should I be here without somebody that knew me the best. But now I see why I am still here and not with my mom yet and that s to prove my dad wrong and my teachers.
Who are you?
My name is Richard Kyell Reese, I was boring in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I am twelve out of thirteen and the last boy out of eight. My mother passed away on October 3, 2006. I went through a lot when I was a young kid. My teachers in elementary thought I was not smart to pass the ISTEP and thought I should be in a school for slow kids. But my mother had a different approach about that and took it in her hands. She never let anybody hurt her little man feelings, so she taught me the things I was suppose to learn in elementary school. My mother is the reason my I can answer the question who are you, because if she was not the mother she was I would be in prison or in a retard home or something. Now I know who I am, a back educated man that had to make it in life to get what he wants. Now I know what I want in life and that s a gym in her name Janet Elaine Reese Gym. So to conclude I am a young man that had choice to make early and I think I made good ones so far.

There is one simple and short reason I am here. I am here to receive my doctorate and I have always wanted it. I have run business for the past several years and now own a onrganizason which is almost a year old. I have also been published for my first book (I’ve Got your Back). This is all the reason that I have come to Indiana University for my further education.

Why am I here? I'm here to become a student and to get ahead in life. I want to be the best in the business and be very marketable; I'll have to fight the competition and make sure that my skills are better than what others have to offer. Collge simply offers me the opportunity in life to become something than just an average joe. It will enable me to make a difference in my life by being here. The money that I will end up making will be more than doubled if I come through to finish college. So being here will make a great impact on my life and create a great and bright future ahead of me.
Who am I? I am a student that studies hard at college to become successful. I am an athelete that is working hard at team work and staying active. I'm a son of my mother and father who raised me since birth. I am the next person in line to handle my hopes and dreams to show how much of a success anyone can have, because I am a role model.

Why are you here?
I am here because the generation I live in requires a higher education in order to receive an income that I can live off of and provide for my family. With that said, I want to be able to give my children what I did not have and be able to buy what I want. In addition, I am here to make my family back home proud and show that they raised the young man that they hoped to. Furthermore, I am here because I want to prove statistics about young African American men wrong. I feel that college will enhance my knowledge and provide me with experiences that will make me a stronger person. I feel that college will give me a beginning to becoming a man, living on my own and making my own decisions. I also feel that education is an important aspect of life because it gives a person knowledge that could take them far in life. In other words, I am here because I want to do something with my life and take it wherever God directs it.
Who are you?
I am a young African American male from Kokomo, Indiana who wants to be a productive citizen in society. I am a first generation college student at Indiana University Bloomington striving to achieve a bachelor’s degree. I am a Baptist Christian that knows God is in control. I see myself as a respectful young man determined to live his life to the fullest. I am a person who is grateful for everything that God gave me. I am a person who does not look forward to creating enemies and who would rather create friendships that have a positive effect in my life.

Why are you here?
The reason why I decided to go to college is essentially a very simple one; quality of life. Without a college education, I would be forced to work a minimum wage job and live from paycheck to paycheck. By receiving a college degree, I will be able to have a career in a field that I enjoy and be able to live somewhat comfortably with minimal financial stress. In addition, the degree will provide me with job security and enable me to have autonomy over my career. In short, a college degree is more than a few letters after your name, it is the ticket to a better life.
Who am I?
There comes a time in many young people's lives in which they have a hard time defining themselves. I, on the other hand, can honestly say that I am a young man with huge goals and aspirations. In addition to the aforementioned, I am a brother, son, uncle, grandson, cousin, and nephew who will stop at nothing and do whatever it takes to succeed in life. Having these qualities in addition to a few others will well equip me to conquer the next stage in my life, becoming a man.

I’m here because this is the next step in my life, where I will be able to attain the necessary skills in order to achieve my goals. I’m here to at college to basically learn what I need to know in order to get a career in my life. In my case, all I have to do is take the required classes so that I can take the test and get to a Vet school; I have no reason to get a degree. But the chances of getting in one are very low because there are only a few veterinary schools across the country. Therefore while in college I’ll get a degree because that’s what I’m here for anyways. Getting a career is not the only reason why I’m college. I’m here to better not just me but my family, if there’s anything they ever needed me to do, I want to be able to have the resources to help them out. I want them to be proud of me not just because of where I am but of what I will do with my life. I’m here to get an education and get something out of life.
Who am I? For the longest time I haven’t asked myself this question. I haven’t even thought about it. I am Enrique Lopez and I’m a freshman at IU. I consider myself a responsible person that will work hard to get what I want when I set my mind on it. I don’t consider myself a leader, I’m not the kind of person who will start something out of nothing, but if there’s something I’m interested in, I will try to help out and contribute in what I can. I don’t consider myself a “man” because I do not completely get what the term means. I think it has a different meaning for different people.

Why am I here? I am here to get a better education, but that is the most common answer in these days. The real reason is because I want to prove my family and friends that I can graduate from college. One day my uncle's wife told me that she was not sure that I was going to college because I have been here only two years. I want to prove them that I am capable to do what they think I am not. The purpose of education is the same everywhere, is for the people to have a better future and do what they like to do and get paid for it.
I am from Guadalajara, Mexico and I moved to the United States two years ago. I am a person who sometimes lives in the past and forgets about the present in my personal life. I think that my purpose in life is to make others happy because sometimes I forget about myself and think in others a lot.

What does it mean to be a man?
Being a man is about being responsible and doing whats right and necessary, but also knowing when to ask for help. A man is someone who others look up to and aspire to be like. I think women have different views on what a man is. For one, to them a man has to able to support them and their family if needed. Although I think that a man to them is simply someone they can trust. But obviously I wouldn't know since I'm in this class...

What is it to be a man?
To me there are many things that make up "being a man" The biggest of which is being responsible and standing for what you believe in. One man I have the most respect for is Muhammad Ali. I see him as being a great role model of what a man should be. While he was an amazing athlete in his carreer, to this day he stands for what he believes in. He is responsible for his actions and does what is right. While he has flaws the same as any man does, he is willing to do what it takes to over come those flaws and be the role model and leader that any boy can look up to. This is what a man should be. I would challenge any male, especially those who havn't had strong males in their lifes, to be more like Ali. Be someone that when you have a son someday he can look at you and be proud to know that his father is a strong man who has his life straight and does what is right and knows what he believes in.

I am here because I refuse to be another negative statistic for black men. I will make something of myself by becoming a successful lawyer. After I establish myself as a lawyer, I then want to go ahead and open up a law firm. That is why I am pursuing my business management degree as an undergraduate so I will have the necessary skills to run my business successfully. College is the next step for me to continue my goal. By fulfilling this goal I will become the first person in my immediate family to earn a college degree. My family is counting on me to succeed, as well as my church family, and surprisingly some of my friends. I am not only doing this for myself but for all the people who want to see me do well and make something of myself. I am here because I do not want to be just good, I want to be great.

I am here for a few good reasons. The first reason is that I'm here to succeed for myself. I also am here to prove others, such as family and friends, that I am smart and very capable of succeeding. I am also here
to help others who are in my position.
The purpose of education is so that one can go about in the modern world being fully aware of what are and aren't successful decisions. When one is well educated they can do anything. A well educated person is looked upon on. I hope to become well educated so that I can give my future family what my parents have given to me.

I’m going to college to get the skills that I need for a career and to take the opportunity that I’ve been given to succeed in that a career. I’m indecisive on what career I should take but I do want a career that has a decent pay and is in high demand so that I have a greater chance at having a job right after college. The purpose of education when you were in elementary and high school was to prepare anyone with basic needs to survive and function in society. In college the purpose of education is to supply adults with the skills to go into a career and for those who want to keep learning. There is no real purpose to my life at this point. Not to talk bad about myself but I have little or no value in life at all except to friends or if I had someone who needed me to support such as having a family in the future.

What is the purpose of education? To me that answer is very complex because everything anyone does involves education. But to just answer the question I would say the purpose is to survive in everyday life. A wise man one told me that a man without education is like a car without an engine. That statement is so true to me because in this world today a man without an education is like a bum on the streets. It’s a shame when you start to hear things like restaurants like McDonald’s aren’t even taking adults without a diploma. Once I heard that I stopped and really realized which path am I on and also which path will I choose to take. I had two options to choose to from, option one was to not go to college and just try to hustle or get an job that would get the bills paid. Option two was to go to college and get a higher education, which of course was the option I choose. So basically the purpose is to just make it.

I’m John Dockery and I am a freshman at Indiana University. Right now I’m exploratory about my major but I would like to do something with criminal justice or physical education. My favorite movie is “All About the Benjamins.” For fun I usually hang with my boy, play basketball, and coach. I am here because of a lot of things. I am here because it is what comes after high school. I’m here because I watched my family struggle all my life to get by and I want to do better. I am here because I want to make my mom proud. I want her to be able to say one of her children graduated from college got a degree and made something of his self. I am here because I can’t go back home. If I wasn’t here I have no clue what I would be doing with my life. I really think the purpose of my live is to do well in school, graduate, and get a well paying job so I can help my mom the same way she helped me. I also want to be able to provide for my family.

Why am I in College…?
I did not always want to go to college, I was never really a big fan of school. I never was until about a two and a half years ago when I finally realized how much it would benefit me and how important it is to attend college and more importantly how far college could take me in life. I am in College today to try and meet the many goals that I have set forth for my future. Without college I would not be able to meet many of these goals. I am also in college because tomorrow is my future, and I am still trying to figure out some of my future plans and exactly what I want to do with my life after school. While growing up my parents had always wanted me to go to college but they were never the type to force me to go, however, my dad always wanted me to attend Indiana University. But really they just didn’t want me to turn out like them. My parents have always had to work extra hard for every penny that they earn, like working more than one job at a time and overtime whenever they have it available. This is partly because they did not attend college themselves. However, in the end it was my choice to go to college and nobody else’s; this is the best decision I have made in my whole life and I will never regret it for one second.
Who I am…?
My name is Benjamin Chase Moore; I am a freshman here at Indiana University. As for my major I am still trying to find an area that catches my attention and will hold it for many years to come but I have always been interested in Psychology but I have always found Forensic Science (even before I knew about the show CSI) to be really interesting and fun. I am a white male whose favorite movie is Radio, and my favorite music artist would have to be Country singer Jason Aldean. My favorite book is Hangman’s Curse by Christian Novelist Frank Peretti. I have always had an interest in watching extreme sports, although, i would not be able to do any of that kind of stuff.

Why am I here? I am here to get a better an education and to actually look for a brighter future for myself and maybe even my family. I am here to set an example for all the people in my neighborhood and for the young people who think of me as they’re role model. I am here to show that all the hard work you did in the past will eventually pay off for you in the future so for the people who think they are being worked too hard while they are young should think again because everything you are doing is worth ever bit. I am here so I can better myself and give back to my city make it one of the best cities in the United States and for me to do all that I have to keep my head on the right track, stay focus, and to get everyone in the city involve if I can. Even though everybody that stays in Gary know that it is tearing down slowly and everyone is moving out of it I want to be that person to bring everybody back. I want to be that person who get all the banded building rebuild and up and running so people could look forward to come Gary every little chance they get and to everyone unit as a family and getting alone without any circumstance. I am here to make the Indiana University basketball team and to take them back to the NCAA tournament or even getting them their first title and I feel that would be even great. Overall I am here to set my goal at a high rate or they wouldn’t be no goal they would be dream and I feel there is amount of time for me to accomplish these goals.

I am here because i want to be successful in life and going to college is a very big step for accomplishing that goal. I am here to get an education so that i can succeed in the career that i want to pursue. The purpose of education is to teach you information and in the long run education can do nothing but help you and also bring you a lot of money. The purpose of my life is to live a happy and successful one that will include many steps that will have to be completed such as education.

Why Are You Here?
The reason I am here at Indiana University is to be the best man I can be. Today in life you can’t just finish high school and start a trade or factory type job and be successful. You have to go to a post-secondary school. My dream is to become a decelerated Physical Therapist and travel with professional athletic teams. So I enrolled at IU to start my education, but first I have to take basic classes and major in Exercise Science. IU offers many opportunities and has great people here to network with. It gives you a chance to branch out and meet people from all over the world. Another main reason I am here at IU is to represent my family in the best way possible. I am a first generation student so a lot of people are counting on me to beat the odds and make it. My sister was the first person period in my family to graduate college and I will be the first boy. So with that said I am here at Indiana University to become an educated black man with a degree and a well paying job. Also to have the money to give back to those who grew up like me and faced many obstacles in life. Last but not least I am at IU for my family and those who couldn’t make it for whatever reason that would be.

In 10 years I see myself with a bachelor’s degree that I received in previous years and a successful career. I also see myself with a wife, two kids, a two story house, and about 100 acres of land. I will have a pond, large field, and some woods that surround both sides of the field. With my job I will be able to travel during my vacations to places like Hawaii, England, and other places in and outside of the U.S. With the amount of money that I could make I could help out the rest of my family if they have financial problems.

Why am I here
Well to begin with, I am here for many different reasons, but the top two reasons are to increase my education and get a high demanding job in my future, if God wills. I want to have a lot of knowledge so I can help others become more educated and more aware of what is important and what is not. Education is very important and without it you will be left in dust because you wouldn’t be able to get a high payment job or in some cases a low payment job. Especially the way the economy is today. Knowledge and studying is what gives you that job and without it you wouldn’t be able to put food on the table for you family. So I am here to just learn and get a job that could be the solution for my rent, family, food, cars, and etc. With a high payment job I could not only take care of my family and myself, but I could also help the poor and the needy. So overall I think that knowledge is the key that opens the door for you in the future.
